Young Adult Counselling

Becoming an adult: More complicated and daunting then ever?

While we live in an exciting time in history, we also live in maybe the most intense time to become an adult. We are a constantly bombarded with communication, new technology, social activities and expectations from all directions.  It’s normal if you are feeling overwhelmed or uncertain of how to survive, let to alone thrive as a young adult.

“It takes courage to grow up and become who you really are.”

~ e. e. cummings

So many challenges. So much to learn and become without losing yourself.

Transition from life as a teenager to an adult has always been an exciting time of exploration, learning and struggle. We all have things that happened to us that aren’t fully resolved from the past. Most of us carry the struggle and trauma of our families.  While there is more awareness of these things in the world, we still might need help to set ourselves free so we can have less holding us back as we move into a life of deeply connected relationships, fulfilling work and sexual experiences. We know we want a life that is full of meaning. It’s not that we won’t find ourselves lost and struggling at times, but it’s much easier when we embrace who we are and have support in knowing how to do that.

“It’s like the people who believe they’ll be happy if they go and live somewhere else, but who learn it doesn’t work that way. Wherever you go, you take yourself with you. If you see what I mean.”

~Neil Gaiman, The Graveyard Book

There will always be challenges. Better to learn to navigate them right from the start!

While counselling hasn’t always been something that young adults did for themselves; if you start now many of the challenges that will visit you time after time throughout your life can be avoided. The way we work goes to the heart or root of what holds you back from being more of your true self.  We show you how to embrace your challenges now; this will give you many skills and more importantly the inner resources of yourself to create a more fulfilling life all the way through.

You will find clarity on what’s important in life, remove many of the obstacles in having that life and have the inner resources to navigate that life in the future.

Don’t be afraid of death; be afraid of an unlived life. You don’t have to live forever, you just have to live.”
