Experiences from Totality Counselling

What are they?

When I started my blog, I had this idea that I wanted to incorporate some actual experiences into them. If a picture is worth a thousand words, an experience is worth a million.

These experiences are relatively short Audio recordings that will guide you on a little journey. I will guide you on a short experience using your imagination, your mind and the sensations in your body.

Where to Find them!

You will find the experiences within the articles, generally after the first few paragraphs.

How can you Best take advantage of them?

Audio Recordings and a few things to keep in Mind:

  • They are hosted on the Blog Article itself
  • I make an MP3 for each available to download (for free)
  • Listen to them sitting Comfortably in a chair or on the couch
  • Listen to the MP3 while lying down (recommended for a more immersive experience)
  • Use Headphones – A great way to cut out distractions
  • Mute Phones and other distractions.
  • Give yourself at least 5 minutes after to allow yourself to reflect on and integrate the experience

Why have I created these experiences?

Like I said above, “If a picture is worth a thousand words, an experience is worth a million.”

So much of our world is based or focused on telling us about things, rather than on experiencing them. We are told about movies, without actually watching them. We spend hours reading reviews of something, sometimes never having our own experience of it.

While there is huge value in learning about psychology, how we operate as human beings, if we don’t actually experience something new then its all just new information. Wisdom is information or knowledge applied. The true benefit of something is gained when we use it.

I know how much more I get out of actually having an experience, rather than just talking about something. I wanted to bring that to my blog. I wanted to offer a taste of different aspects of transformation and change. They don’t replace the work done with a therapist.

Each experience is linked (sometimes rather loosely) with the article that it is presented from. I aim to connect what I am explaining or sharing about in the article with the experience I have created. We learn a great deal more through our own experiences than being told about others.

They offer a chance to try something new, to spend some time getting to know yourself, your emotions and thoughts in a new way.

  • Our experiences are what make up our lives.
  • Our Bodily Sensations are how we monitor or gauge our experience of life
  • Many of us aren’t comfortable with or Aware of what we experience through our Sensations
  • We aren’t Aware of how our Thinking, our Patterns of thinking or our Beliefs are Linked to our Emotions
  • My aim through the experiences is to provide a glimpse of what all of this means and how you can gain more awareness of it.

Safely Experiencing

While I have created theses experiences in a way that shouldn’t activate most people’s nervous system in an overstimulating way it’s important you know:

  • You are always in control of your own experience
  • You can stop at any time.
  • You may also be able to negotiate with yourself internally. To agree to have a less intense experience
  • If you find yourself feeling more than you are comfortable with:
    • Stop the process.
    • Open your eyes
    • Slowly Look around your physical space
    • Name out loud some of the objects around you. Spend 10-20 seconds with each object
    • Take some slow deliberate breaths

I hope you find these experiences valuable for you in your journey. Happy Experiencing

Joel Todd
