A Letting Go Process

A little about Letting Go

This Article is focused on the practice of letting go. If you want to learn more about letting go check out my article called “Mindfulness and letting go – How can they free us from anxiety and struggle?”.

“When I let go of what I am, I become what I might be.”
~ Lao Tzu

This technique is my take on a process given in David R. Hawkins book called “Letting Go: A Pathway Surrender” one of the most important books in my process of healing and transformation. The book itself speaks to letting go from a psychological and spiritually minded point of view.  While I see the value of both perspectives, my focus for this article is to use this technique to support the letting go of resistance and psychological defences, along with the calming of the nervous system.  I have come to see that the core of spirituality is acceptance, forgiveness and love which fit very well with therapeutic counselling. This technique is in line with somatic therapeutic practices of bringing awareness to the sensations of the body.  It also reminds me of IFS (Internal Family Systems) and the cultivation of Self energy. Many or even most therapeutic modalities take advantage of the gentle power of accepting, forgiving and allowing ourselves to be with what we are experiencing in the moment. Understanding that as we do this, we calm our nervous systems, lower our internal defenses and access more of our innate inner resources.

A brief experience of “Letting Go”

“Letting go is the willingness to change your beliefs in order to bring more peace and joy into your life instead of holding onto beliefs that bring pain and suffering.”
